What a great day!
The sun is out and it’s beautiful! I got up this morning and the first thing I did was fling all the windows open to let a non-existent breeze in. I didn’t get a lie-in today, I woke up early which was a bit annoying. It did mean that I was up in time to watch Ministry of Mayhem though - my new favourite kids show!
Then I sat outside in the sunshine and read for ages, until it got too hot and I thought I was melting. I also got the shopping done today, and got past a particularly tricky bit in Prince of Persia.
I woke up early yesterday morning with a sudden thought that I couldn’t figure out the answer to. You know Coronation Street? (If you don’t watch it, stick with me, because it’s a universal soap question really). The character of Bethany (a little girl of about three) is played by twins, so that it’s not too stressful for them, all the long hours and such.
But what happens if the same actors want to continue the part as she grows up… when she’s old enough they’ll only need one person to play Bethany. How do they decide?
Three adverts have caught my attention and not for good reasons…
Firstly, the second instalment of the Yakult Bacteria guy. I actually quite appreciate the idea of the advert and think it’s really nice that the girl is sticking up for her geeky friend. BUT… those Yakult bottles are so expensive, you just WOULD NOT give one away like that. Not even to a friend! And especially not to two horrible bullies.
It’s only been a week but it seems forever. I hope everyone had a great St Patrick’s day, plenty of Guinness was flowing, I hope.
The very last Sex & The City was on Channel 4 last night and it was brilliant. Everything happened just as it should and I thought the ending, when she just sort of melted into the crowd was brilliant. It tied up all the loose ends but not in a sickly, happy family way, leaving a little room for your imagination (and that movie if they ever agree to do it). My one complaint is that they revealed Big’s name. Whatever it was, it wasn’t going to live up to the expectation of it. And John… well, that definitely doesn’t.w
Did anyone else watch If the lights go out? I thought it was going to be really good, eye opening, scare us all into doing something about the use of all our power sources. But it actually did nothing of the sort.
First of all, they didn’t show that we were using a ton more electricity than now. The girl was playing a video game. Er, we do that now don’t we? Secondly, why would we have stopped making nuclear power? It’s the best source of power we have and is currently getting cheaper.
So, today’s the day. I’m sorting out my website again, once and for all. I’ve decided that it needs updating and I have a whole weekend on my own with no distractions to get it done. Except that really good book that I started yesterday. And the television. And the trip to town and the supermarket I have to fit in. But yes, best get started!
We’ve been inspired by educational TV again, this time it was Days That Shook The World on the BBC. So far I have learnt about the plane that came down in Scotland, and also about the Chernobyl disaster. This was before my TV decided to stop working though. Sound is no problem, but there’s no picture. I was trying to “watch” Coronation Street yesterday, but it was like trying to figure out what’s going on in the Archers, and I always struggle.
Yesterday was the last ever Buffy and it made me cry, not because it was sad or anything - it was good but nothing fancy. It made sense and everything worked out okay, but it seemed to go out with a whimper instead of a big bang… in my opinion. Anyway, it just made me cry because I spent the best part of this time last year watching all the videos that my brother lent to me so I could catch up, and now it’s all over. I don’t know why it made me sad, it just did… I’m weird like that.
I just finished reading the whole of the Heat special double Christmas issue, with all the TV listings and I’m sulking because I can’t find Mary Poppins in there anywhere. I know she has to be in there someplace, but I can’t find her.
I’m really annoyed because I’ve been driving up and down so much and working all day and stuff I haven’t had time to learn anything or I’ve been too tired to read any of my books.
We just finished watching Time Commanders and I really love it. We’ve discovered a passion for educational TV and at least it’s not mindless soap like Emmerdale. But TC is really good because they have all the computer battles going on and the historians are really passionate while the presenter is really funny. I’d never seen anyone win before today, they were always defeated but today (although I think it was just because they had tons more troops) they were victorious. Well done.
Who watched Eastenders? I have to put my two cents in and say that the whole nation would have been watching the episode and not even bothered concentrating on what was happening with Sharon and Little Dennis, when they knew who was going to appear at the end. And could it have been more predictable? “Hello princess” and roll the drums…
I’ve been listening to Radio One a lot recently, what with all the driving I’ve been doing and I can’t work out whether I like it or not. I like half the songs, and I only really rate Chris Moyles as a presenter, and probably only him cos of Comedy Dave.
Today I watched James Bond - one that I haven’t seen for ages. It’s such an institution, it always cheers me up. Yesterday, I wrote a lot of notes for the software testing that I learnt and I also started a new book on UML. My hands are hurting from too much writing!
I’ve been a little obsessed with bid-up.tv the last couple of days, it really draws me in. My favourite auctioneer is Peter Simon - he used to be on kids tv!
I hate computers… I updated this once already today, well, yesterday and it just disappeared. Typical.
Today was the longest day of my life, second after second ticked by slow as ever. I even wrote a poem called Bored. Says it all really, doesn’t it?
When I got home, took a nice shower then settled down to watch some Buffy. Looks like I’m gonna have to speed watch and get through all the series’ before I lose access to them… It’s unlikely I’ll manage to finish them. Never mind.
Today I have just attempted to tidy up all the mess that I made yesterday. I didn’t get up until late, having not gone to bed until 3am, so it’s been an odd day.
The Osbournes is playing in the background. I have to say I’ve avoided it mostly so far, but I can understand how people find it funny.
Because my brother is away at the moment and has limited space available, I get to look after all his videos for him. I have collected from him all the series’ of Friends that are out, and today he brought me six seasons of Buffy.
Now this is a real treat, because I only manage to catch the occasional Buffy episode and although I love it, I never seem to know what’s going on.
