In for a penny

I’ve talked about Librivox on a few occasions before, and today I’m popping back to the topic to pass along a request for help.

Although the time I can spare reading and recording LibriVox books varies throughout the year, it’s always been really great fun. Time spent there is supportive and friendly, and the book selection is vast and fabulous. LibriVox has been giving away free audiobooks for several years, and now it’s time to ask for help.

From the post:

For four-and-a-half years, LibriVox volunteers have been making audiobooks for the world to enjoy, and giving them away for free. We’ve made thousands of free audiobooks that have been downloaded by millions of people; our site gets 400,000 visitors every month. To date, all our costs have been borne by a few individuals, with some generous donations from partners. However, these costs have become too big.

That age old thing of “if everyone who listened to a book gave $1, it would make all the difference.” I know people don’t like to give money, particularly when things are free, but if you have listened to a LibriVox book and enjoyed it, why not spare a little so that the project can keep going and growing?
