I'm hijacking this train

Published March 8, 2026

A still from the Apple TV show Hijack featuring main character Sam played by Idris Elba stepping off a yellow subway train

When I reviewed the first series of Hijack, I said “I’m assuming it’s not the kind of show that will get a second series…” and left it there. Well, I was wrong, the show helmed by Idris Elba returned to Apple TV for a second outing and it was really good.

I wasn’t convinced this was going to work, obviously, and without spoiling anything, couldn’t see how a second hijacking was going to make sense. There were plot holes galore, I’m not going to lie, but they didn’t manage to string together the story so that if you suspend your disbelief for a bit, it does stack up.

The real joy of this second series was the tension, the new and returning characters quickly became part of the furniture and you were rooting for or against them with surprising passion. Otto the train driver, in particular, I became quite attached to and was definitely concerned for his wellbeing at several points throughout the show. And there was one point quite early on when I said ‘if that person is dead, I’m not watching anymore.’ So the stakes were pretty high.

I can’t really say a lot more without giving anything away, but it’s definitely worth a watch. Do I risk saying it’s unlikely to come back for another series? They can’t possibly have Idris getting involved in a third hijacking, surely? People would just stop travelling with him!
