Five films to look forward to in 2026

For a few years now, the goal has been to watch 100 movies during the year, with a nice mix of old and new along the way. Last year, we just scraped across the line with The Holdovers being the 100th movie in the last few days of December. The trouble is, whilst the films are still out there and calling out to be watched, streaming television has been SO good recently that it’s hard to balance both! However, I would like to give films a fair go in 2026, and here are five upcoming releases I’m looking forward to.

Project Hail Mary

The Martian remains one of my favourite books, written by Andy Weir, who also penned the source material for this movie adaptation. This time, there’s a teacher-turned-astronaut, played by Ryan Gosling, with memory loss and a pretty big mystery to be solved. It looks great, and I can’t wait to see if it lives up to the novel.

Avengers: Doomsday

It’s pretty universally acknowledged that the MCU is a shadow of its former self, since the end of the Infinity Saga. However, there are still things to look forward to within individual films, and this latest Avengers looks to bring together some interesting threads that we thought had already been put to bed!

Scream 7

The last couple of Scream movies have been great, with new characters and new threats to deal with. However, I can’t lie, I’m very excited to see the return of OG cast Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox. There’s a new generation being tormented, as well, with Sidney Prescott’s daughter becoming part of the story.

Disclosure Day

Steven Spielberg directing a sci fi story, with an incredible cast led by Emily Blunt. I’m on board, no more information required!

Star Wars: Mandalorian and Grogu

There’s really not a lot of selling required to get people excited for a full movie outing for the adorable, and endlessly hungry, Grogu. Our favourite Baby Yoda seems to have grown up even more with further skills and that cheeky little face. Oh yea, and Pedro Pascal is in it too!

There’s a lot more upcoming, of course, and these are just some of the biggest releases we already know about. I don’t know how the year will pan out in terms of television versus films, but I think either way there’s plenty to look forward to.
