Murders in and out of the building

When I reviewed the second series of OMITB (we’re calling it that, right?), I was talking about the upward trajectory that it was on and hoping the third would continue that way. Did it? Didn’t it just! I really liked this murder as it was not connected to the first two series’ story so had a fresh take to it, and featured a lot of incredible new cast members - Paul Rudd and Meryl Streep as the headliners.
Of course our dynamic trio were front and centre of the whole mystery, and I was a bit torn about their journey through the series. It made perfect sense that they would drift apart and wonder what their respective relationship is without a specific project keeping them together, and that added dramatic tension. But it also meant they didn’t spend as much time together, bickering, getting on each other’s nerves, and having moments of hilarious inspiration.
Alongside all the greatness of a normal series of crime fighting, this one had the added layer of Oliver putting on a play that turned into a musical and all the joy that that brings. Directing, rehearsing, arguing amongst each other, incredible costumes, terrible dialogue, and brilliant incessant earworms for songs.
Steve Martin is already a legend to me and this is next level. Anyway, the series came to a conclusion with a new murder to be solved and that just means I cannot wait until series four arrives and gives us more of this quirky greatness.
