Mr C's top five films of 2013
Published January 2, 2014
Just as with the top five songs of the year, Mr C also likes to pass judgement on the movies we have watched over the past twelve months as well. This is a slightly more tricky selection to explain, as we live constantly about four months behind cinema release dates due to the rental window.
So, it’s not quite “top five films released in 2013” and it’s not really “top five films watched in 2013” either, it’s more “top five films that were released between August 2012 and August 2013 that we watched in 2013.” But that’s not as catchy.
If you want to see previous efforts, there are lists since 2010. Ahh, 2012 was a good year for films. But enough about that year, let’s hear what he has to say about this one!
1. Silver Linings Playbook
“It’s just adorable. I love them as a couple, I could watch the film all day, I could watch them all day. It didn’t matter what the script was, it’s just brilliant.”
2. Skyfall
“This made up for everything that was wrong with Quantum of Solace. Probably my all time favourite Bond film ever. Let’s have more sequels!”
3. Argo
“Surprise of the year, it wasn’t the film I expected to see, but it was brilliant! Who knew Ben Affleck could act? Also, bonus John Goodman!”
4. The Great Gatsby
“I have to be the only person in the entire world not to know anything about Gatsby. I assumed I wouldn’t like it, but I did. It was so colourful, everything was so shiny and vibrant.”
5. I Give It a Year
“Hidden gem of the year. It should have done better, it should have been more popular, I laughed from beginning to end and still laugh now even just thinking about.”
In 2013, we managed to watch an impressive 95 films, both old and new, which is our biggest tally to date. There’s no way we can break the century this year, is there?
