I started this crazy Film Watch experiment way back in April 2009 - watching, noting and blogging each film that I watched in an attempt to remember what was good, and not so good. Along the way, it turned into a Life List thing, to watch 500 films. At first the goal seemed a million miles away, but gradually it has seemed more doable, and now I am halfway through! Also along the way, it has become less of a personal thing, and more of a thing that Mr C and I can enjoy together.

Anyway, enough of the waffle, to celebrate the halfway point I compiled a few statistics about what I’ve watched, when, where and whodunit.

Longest films

I’ve never really liked super long films but actually I think as I watch more, my tolerance for the longer-form story has developed. Unfortunately, my spare time hasn’t expanded any more, so we still tend to opt for a normal length movie. Even with that, there are a few that sneak through that took a big chunk of the day.

Shortest films

On the flip side, there are the super short films that take up no time at all. Sometimes these almost don’t feel like they have enough time to get going, but they are also mostly kid’s movies and that makes sense because I do have a short attention span.

By month

I had thought there might be more of a trend with how many films we watched, but it’s so changeable! The only obvious highlight is December 2010. Something crazy must have happened then.

Through the Years

Clearly, we watch more and more recent ones as they come out - mostly because we love trailers and get all excited about what is coming out soon. My education into some of the older films is not progressing as well as you might like, but we’re gradually getting through the classics.

Top Directors

Zemeckis has a bit of an advantage here, given that three of those films are part of the Back to the Future trilogy and just HAD to be watched.

By score

I score each film out of five, sometimes rather controversially, and this graph shows how many films have received each score. It makes sense that they are skewed to the better scores, because having seen a trailer, we already have some knowledge of what is coming up and will only watch something that looks interesting. We are predisposed to like them, although it doesn’t always work out that way!
