No more Doctor Who Confidential

The BBC confirmed today that after this series, there will be no more episodes of Doctor Who Confidential filmed. The sister show has been sitting alongside the main BBC1 programme since it came back to our screens with Christopher Ecclestone, but is now on the way out.
The Beeb say:
The Confidential team captured the rebirth of the show back in 2005 and for over half a decade they have given an unsurpassed, access-all-areas insight not just into Doctor Who, but the magic and mechanics of making successful drama. From an episode directed by David Tennant, to the special edition that broke the news that Matt Smith would be the Eleventh Doctor, Doctor Who Confidential has always delivered the very best in must-see behind-the-scenes action.
Well, yes, they did. But then again, they also showed a weird episode where Arthur Darvill and Karen Gillan got to do something they’d always wanted to do. That was swimming with sharks and driving a fast car around a circuit, respectively. Not sure what that has to do with Doctor Who at all.
Equally, I was expecting great things when I saw how well James Corden and Matt Smith got on, and that they’d be doing a video diary. However, in the end, all we got was a lot of high pitched screeching. Apparently, stars being able to belt out a version of the Doctor Who theme tune makes exciting TV.
From a Radio Times story:
However, just like Doctor Who itself, it’s no secret that making the show is expensive and time consuming compared to many other formats: keeping a team on staff for 12 months a year to make a programme that’s only broadcast seasonally seems an extravagance in today’s austere television times.
And in the comments on that post, there’s a lot of feeling that you can only stare in wonderment at a green screen trick so many times before the magic fades.
I’ve enjoyed DWC but probably won’t miss it when it goes. I don’t particularly like Russell Tovey’s narration compared to some of the previous sereis. Plus, the only stand out Confidential moment I have is David Tennant’s goodbye. Now the roles are reversed and this weekend’s final episode of this Doctor Who series will also see the final episode of Confidential after it.
Will you miss it?
