I really wanted to like this. I’ve enjoyed a few of Dave’s singles and his performance at Glastonbury was excellent. This album just didn’t work for me. It’s a concept piece, featuring Dave in a therapy session, and so the songs weave in and out of difficult moments from his life.
That part of it is okay, but it just felt lengthy and drawn out. The song Lesley is a ten minute opus, telling a story of domestic abuse - and whilst I applaud Dave’s stance on this and the effort he has put into the song, I just wanted it to end, especially second time round.
So, it’s good if you like that sort of thing but unfortunately I didn’t.
