Thoughts
After loving Céline Dion’s Carpool Karaoke outing, it seemed only natural to choose one of her albums for this week’s selection. It gets off to a stunning start. The first three songs are epic. It’s All Coming Back to Me Now is so Meat Loaf, it’s brilliant.
Of course there’s a reason for that, which sent us down an incredible Google rabbit hole. Written by Jim Steinman, the song was desired by Meat Loaf but reserved by Mr S as he thought it would work better with a female voice. He created his own female band to sing it, and the Céline Dion version is a cover! Incredible, considering it has to be the definitive version.
Anyway, after that I feel like the album goes downhill a little bit, and River Deep, Mountain High sticks out a bit as though it doesn’t fit in with the rest. But still, it’s all a good album and my fledgling fandom of Céline has only grown another step further now.
