Thoughts

I went into this with mixed feelings - I’ve liked a few of The Weeknd’s songs but the last album wasn’t as good as I was hoping. And then I knew that there were ’talky bits’ in this and I tend to struggle with that on albums. However… I actually really liked it! The whole vibe has some kind of fever dream feel towards it.

Jim Carrey hosts a radio show that encompasses the album, wistfully guiding you towards an afterlife of whatever sort, and the way it weaves in and out was so artfully done, you just have to go with it. And of course the songs in between are fabulous - dance pop, with The Weeknd’s excellent vocals. The only one I could live without is Quincy’s tale, that didn’t really seem to fit, otherwise it was great.
