I’ve been trying to keep an eye on what comes out on Apple Arcade each month and there’s a good variety of games, some of which grab me and some of which really don’t. This one looked cute, and seeing as it’s free if you’re an Arcade subscriber, there’s no harm in giving it a go. I don’t really know much about sticker collections and that kind of thing but dived right in.
It’s in the Game
Sometimes you don’t need a super elaborate, complex game to keep your mind entertained, sometimes all you need is a game that lets you place little stickers on a board so that they fit together satisfyingly well and create a whole poster when done. It’s that simple. You do grow a collection and unlock new stickers as you work through the levels, but for the most part it’s a jigsaw game.
The fun thing about this is that instead of the traditional jigsaw shape of square with rounded bits sticking out or inlets cut in, each piece is a completely random shape as it follows the design of the sticker. Sometimes you can tell instantly where it’s going to fit on the board, but sometimes it takes a few minutes and a few other pieces to get it right.
There’s a progression to the puzzle but it still gives you some flexibility to choose which path you take and what images grab you at that particular moment, and each puzzle probably only takes a few minutes, so very easy to pick up and put down whenever you need a moment to relax.
Thoughts
Lykke are really cornering the market in imaginative puzzle games that are somewhat mindful and can help you relax. I’ve also played Stitch which deserves a review, as it’s a similar concept. If you’re a big fan of stickers, this might have more of a hint of nostalgia for you than it does for me, but even without that, the jigsaw element makes it totally playable and worth having around on your device.
