I think I might have played this game before, but it was released on Apple Arcade recently, so easy to download and play for free. I’m always on the lookout for a casual game, and this one shouts very loudly about fitting into that description. It does what it says on the tin!

It’s in the Game

When it says it’s just mowing, it really is. You’re a little cartoon person sitting on a little cartoon lawnmower, and you swipe around the screen to make it go in the direction you want. When faced with a neighbourhood of overgrown gardens, your challenge is to mow them and move on. Mow and move on. That’s it! So simple and even though it sounds boring, it’s surprisingly satisfying!

There are a few extra bells and whistles - sometimes when you mow near a hedge, you can capture a critter (butterflies, parrots, etc) and there are collections to build up. There’s also some upgrades and work you can do on your lawnmower, and on your character’s outfit too. But all these things are tiny extras that also don’t add or take anything away from the main experience - just mowing.

Thoughts

It’s not the kind of thing you could sit down and do for hours, I don’t think, although I haven’t tried! But when you just need a mindful minute, or want to distract yourself with something satisfying for a few moments, it’s the perfect game to fill the gap. Very low stress, very low maintenance, pick it up and put it down as you please. Top work.
