5:21 Iconic tune to kick off with as always.
9:39 Nebula has been upgraded!
24:28 Really wasn’t expecting Sylvester Stallone to rock up in the Marvel Universe.
29:38 Is this awful animal experimentation supposed to be entertainment?
34:44 I really love Drax.
39:15 I would 100% watch the spin-off for Bug and Doofus.
45:50 “I’m not some fricking Infinity Stone scientist. I’m just some dumb-ass earth dude who met a girl, fell in love, that girl died, and then came back a total dick.”
59:06 “Analogies, metaphors, etc.”
1:09:20 The concept of this Counter Earth makes no sense.
1:20:52 The flashback stuff is really hard to watch, and not just because it’s heartbreaking.
1:32:25 “He makes us laugh and he loves us. How is that a liability?”
1:49:57 How come they’re all just fine even when the spaceship windows are breached?
1:59:42 Was that all one-take? I mean aside from the FX obviously.
2:07:35 Oh okay, taking people’s faces off is part of this superhero shit now is it?
2:10:18 What happened to his suit helmet?

Thoughts

This is a really hard film to review because the good stuff was exceptional but the bad stuff was - oof. I honestly came out of it saying I would rather watch Eternals, and that’s saying a lot. I loved the banter between the gang, Drax and Mantis continuing to be a brilliant comedy duo, Quill going through many emotions, and Nebula growing as a leader. The music was brilliant, and the visuals were all very well done.

But honestly, I could barely cope with the flashback stuff. Fine to be raising awareness of animal experimentation but there was so much of it, and the juxtaposition from that to someone in the present day being funny meant I couldn’t appreciate that comedy as much as it deserved. After each flashback I was just wanting to switch off and do something else… every time.

But stuck with it, and it came to a good ending, and that’s that. Horrific and hilarious, which is not something I ever looked for in a movie.
