Thoughts

Okay, so let’s kick things off with the positive: we were looking for some mindless action and this delivered - it was entertaining in the moment, not too much of a thinking film, with some great visuals along the way.

However, it really doesn’t stand up to much scrutiny. Firstly, of course, the big deal is that they de-aged Will Smith to make a younger clone version of himself. It’s incredible what they can do, it really is impressive, but still not quite good enough. I did find it very distracting.

Then, the story has some real flaws in it. If they wanted to keep the secret, why send the clone after the original? How is it possible for the youngest clone to jump onto a roof from the floor without actually being Spider-Man? Why were the shops in the training village stocked full of stuff? How can you just leave a plane on a runway like that?

Winstead was the best thing in this, by far. She was kick-ass but not in a ’trying-too-hard’ way that Hollywood has done in the past. It was in a casual, I can take care of myself, way that was brilliant.

Wouldn’t particularly recommend this one, but it wasn’t the worst thing I’ve seen.
