Thoughts
My expectations going into this were relatively low - I like Jillian Bell and thought she would be funny but I just wasn’t sure. I ended up loving it! It’s not a straight up comedy, and actually hit a lot closer to home than I’d thought but that made it even better.
I could absolutely relate to so much of what Brittany’s going through, particularly the bit where she’s stood behind the door itching to go out but just lacking the confidence. And the frustration of the scales not doing what you want even though you’re trying your best. And the way life can throw twists and turns and challenges your way just when you think you’re doing great.
Brittany was a lot meaner than I’d expected. Sure, judge the roommate for being a bitch but actually Brit wasn’t that much better. It made a nice change though, she had enough redeeming features so you’d root for her but she wasn’t just a bland rom-com character.
I also really loved the whole of the marathon thing, inspirational. And that it showed how important the crowds cheering are. We’ve done a spot of marathon cheering and you could see that even though you don’t know the person running, a good bit of cheer could help them along the way.
Lovely stuff.
