Conclusions

I wanted to watch this mostly to see the two titans sharing screen time, as well as intrigued by the concept of breaking out of impossible prison situations. I anticipated it being pretty rubbish though, having been burned by The Expendables.

It was surprisingly good, very watchable, stacked full of twists and turns and culminating in a good, exciting ending. I thought it got off to a slow start, and I was a bit disappointed that Arnie and Sylv didn’t get to have more crackling dialogue together.

There was also a bit too much fighting for my tastes, I know if you get these two muscley guys together, that’s probably what people are hoping to see, but I thought it was overdone.

The warden was brilliant, cool and menacing, totally unhinged but always in control. He’d make an excellent Bond villain.

Overall, enjoyable, almost a four-star movie but just knocked down by the niggles here and there. Heaps better than anticipated, though.
