Deeply emotional and candid, Feel Your Way Through explores the challenges and celebrates the experiences faced by Kelsea Ballerini as she navigates the twists and turns of growing into a woman today. In this book of original poetry, Ballerini addresses themes of family, relationships, body image, self-love, sexuality, and the lessons of youth. Her poems speak to the often harsh, and sometimes beautiful, onset of womanhood. Honest, humble, and ultimately hopeful, this collection reveals a new dimension of Ballerini’s artistry and talent.
Thoughts
I’ve loved Kelsea Ballerini since her first album - which was the very first album I reviewed on here too - so I was fascinated to see her release a book of poetry. Not that far a reach from songwriting, I’m sure, but a different format and it’s own challenge. I’m not a huge fan of poetry, except for those stone cold classics, but I gave it a go.
I listened to the audiobook, and hearing Kelsea read these in her own voice with her own cadence was exactly the way to experience it. Occasionally a burst of emotion would crop out - stories of food disorders and the school shooting she witnessed are brutal but beautifully told - and I just whipped through the book. Wonderful.
