This was a tournament that just kept on delivering surprises, day after day. After blistering temperatures in the first week, the conditions cooled a little for the second but remained challenging. The wind picked up and played its part and we got to a position where whoever the champions were going to be, they were going to be a surprise!

• Sabalenka dropped out in shocking fashion, similar to Sinner before her but in completely different conditions. She was inches away from a win, dominant as always, and just absolutely crumbled. The weather wasn’t on her side but that can’t explain dropping a match from being one game away from victory.
• I thought the match between Svitolina and Kostyuk was going to be supremely stressful because I wanted both of them to win but somehow it was more chilled than I expected. I thought Svitolina would win but Kostyuk was on an absolute tear, it’s fitting that she was only halted by the eventual champion.
• It’s been coming for a while but youngster Andreeva finally gets her hand on a grand slam trophy. I’m not a huge fan but can’t deny the talent. And with so many of the big names dropping early, it was a prime opportunity for her which she grabbed with both hands.
• Similarly on the men’s side, Zverev has worked so hard to come back from the injury - it was quite moving when he talked about how that centre court has featured the lowest point of his career, being wheelchaired off, and now the highest. Tennis, man, it is such a rollercoaster of a sport.

Now we move fully on to the short grass court swing. Queens is in full force this week, although the weather is making things tricky. We’ve got the surprising return of Serena Williams in doubles at the championship, partnered with upcomer Mboko but also the return of Boultercanu, if that’s how we’re spelling it.

Roland Garros was great this year, but oh I do love the grass court season, let’s do this!
