Who's next?

The final episode of series fifteen of Doctor Who was already a pretty good one, wrapping up the season nicely, but then we had a couple of surprises that tipped the whole thing sideways and raised many, many questions!
First, the series as a whole was good but not great. Ncuti continued to blow everyone else away, but Varada made a valiant companion - nice to see one who was reluctant to start with and had to be brought round to the ways of the TARDIS rather than running in and instantly falling in love with the Doctor.
The series was too short, really, and with a couple of episodes that felt Doctor-lite, there wasn’t a lot of time to really get stuck in with any of it. It all felt quite removed, even when we’re building to the big bad at the end. I don’t know the Rani of old but it felt weird to have yet another Time Person when we’re so constantly told that the Doctor is the last one. Oh well.
Talking of last ones, this was Ncuti’s last episode, as the Doctor regenerated in the last few minutes. We didn’t know this was happening but it really didn’t come as much of a surprise to me. He’s an absolute superstar and has so much else to go and do, I couldn’t see him wanting to be pigeon-holed in the TARDIS for too long - much as he may have enjoyed it. There are theatres to dominate and other television to make, and he’s going to do an incredible job.
So we were all wondering who’s face was going to pop out of that orange energy glow and NO ONE could have predicted it would be Billie Piper. How is that possible? What does it all mean? The future of Doctor Who has been a little bit up in the air, the association with Disney fraught with politics. But they absolutely have to return because this cannot be the question we are all left with? Only Russell T Davies knows what’s going on, and we need to give him the opportunity to tell us!
