Mountain high

Published September 2, 2024

Every now and again, I read a book about people climbing Mount Everest - the last one quite recently. There are always mixed emotions reading these stories because it’s incredible, what people can do and the sheer adventure of it. There’s such a huge history from the early treks to try and reach the top to the current era where the volume of expeditions means Everest is at risk of being over-touristed.

Plenty of debate to be had there, but at the bottom of it all is an incredible feat of nature - the highest peak on Earth. And if you don’t want to leave your sofa to climb it, why not get a drone to do it for you?

This is an incredible video - from bottom to top in 43 minutes, timelapsed to a short video that shows you the sheer scale of such an undertaking in a way the books really can’t quite manage. The tiny people you can spot making their way onwards and ever upwards and then finally, reaching the top… it’s just amazing.
