Party like it's 1995

I make no secret of my love for the 90s, and often enjoy a bit of culture from that time. However, a certain confluence of events occurred yesterday that meant I somehow went back in time and was living my best 90s life all evening.
First, after hearing that Carl Weathers had died, we wanted to pay tribute to him by watching a movie he’d appeared in. Having already completed Predator and the Rocky series, it was left to Happy Gilmore to complete the gap. Happy Gilmore was released in 1996 so kick-started the time travel evening.
Next it was the latest episode of Gladiators, which has returned to UK screens on the BBC in a format so similar to the 90s version that it’s almost like watching those good old days. The new batch of Gladiators are great, giant muscles and panto villains and everything in between. The events are the same - Hang Tough, Powerball, and that oh so fabulous Eliminator. The only difference is the presenters, father and son duo Bradley and Barney Walsh who aren’t my favourite. But hey, presenting skills weren’t that evident in the 90s either.
Finally, to seal the deal and prove I’d dialled back the clock a couple of decades, the Top of the Pops replays on BBC Four finally restarted, picking up where they left off in August 1995. Lots of lovely Take That and Boyzone and Madonna and Suggs and Oasis and more.
I really can’t recommend this time travel business enough. When the current world is getting you down, go back to your happy place… I’ve found mine! Now I just need to pick another 90s movie and can do this all over again next weekend.
