Come for Jamie, stay for Jack

Published December 16, 2023

The Graham Norton Show is legendary on British TV screens - a chat show that is hilarious but friendly, mixing unexpected celebrities together so that you never know when a fascinating moment is going to happen. I dip in and out, the quality of the show naturally depends on the selection of guests, and your enjoyment varies depending on your knowledge and liking of them.

This week’s show featured a great selection: Imelda Staunton (promoting the final series of The Crown), Jamie Dornan (new series of The Tourist starting in Jan), Jack Lowden (third series of Slow Horses is streaming now), Ncuti Gatwa (new Doctor!!) and Gregory Porter as the musical guest (Christmas album).

I tuned in to see Ncuti, obviously, although can’t deny that Jamie Dornan was also a bonus. I’m not fully versed in Dornan’s work but his voice and accent are next level. So I really wasn’t expecting to come out of the show slightly more in love with Jack Lowden than anyone else.

Whilst Jamie offered up some anecdotes about horses, and Ncuti was grilled about not being able to keep a secret, Jack seemed to be laying everything bare - including the acting homework he has taken upon himself.

Combine that with the brilliant chat about favourite services (everyone has one!) and some adorable insight into his model Christmas villages and I’m afraid I have a new favourite. Excuse me while I go and rewatch Slow Horses from the beginning again.
