Strictly Come Dancing glitterball

The only intro I can offer for this post is the same as Claudia said in the actual intro to the show:

Blackpool. That is the fifth mention, we have been on air for two minutes.

Krishnan & Lauren - Samba

I like Lauren’s teaching method of bow and arrow for helping Krishnan understand the shapes. Initial thoughts are only yellow trousers and fists for hands, but once in hold it got a bit better. The out of hold bits were not good and he really just looked surprised all the time, oh, I’m in a dance! Judges comments were mostly along the line of ‘you gave it a go.’

Bobby & Dianne - American Smooth

He’s good at ballroom, it was pretty smooth and the lifts were great. Good storytelling as well, wasn’t sure about the sprint across the floor but good stuff ultimately. Craig isn’t wrong about the hands but it didn’t ruin the whole thing.

Angela & Kai - Paso Doble

Cryotherapy?? Angela is hardcore. The graphics on the floor making it look like a 3D clock and cog situation were outstanding. Really good dance, great feet, less impressed by the top half but the choreography was non-stop!

Nigel & Katya - Couple’s Choice

Yay for another one that isn’t street dance. Very jazzy. Adorable story, great tricks and lifts, and just cuteness. Loved it. Craig started out saying he didn’t like it then sort of talked himself into liking it.

Ellie & Vito - Rumba

I mean, Vito with his shirt off is a great start. But she dances it really well, looked pretty professional, but I didn’t quite get the passion or emotion with it.

Annabel & Johannes - Samba

I don’t understand Tess wanting the bottom bunk, no one actively wants the bottom bunk. Was worried about this one and it wasn’t perfection but not as bad as I thought it would be. She seemed lost without him at all times. Quite wooden but so much improved on prior weeks.

Angela & Carlos - Waltz

Pretty good, nice floaty dress and good song. Waltz though, innit. Craig bit harsh and Shirley having none of it.

Layton & Nikita - Argentine Tango

Jack Whitehall steals the show. No words for that dance. It was incredible. Never seen such excitement hoping Craig will give a 10 and then booing when he didn’t. Curious what more he wanted from it though, for me it was untouchable.

My pre-show predictions were that Angela R and Annabel would be in the dance off with Annabel going home. In the end it was Angela and Krishnan in the dance off, and thus Krishnan’s journey finally came to an end. He was in the show far longer than I’d expected and I’ve been pleasantly surprised by Lauren - always hard to know how a new professional is going to fit in.

Anyway, I don’t know if they mentioned it but we’re off to Blackpool next week and the competition is getting tough. If I had to pick finalists now, I’d say Layton, Ellie and Nigel, but we’re at the point where anything can happen and it really does matter how the dance goes on the night.
