Q4 movies - Something of a magician
Published October 8, 2023

I’m a little bit late posting this, we’re already a week into the final quarter of the year - but the films will wait for me, I’m sure. There’s a real mix of stuff coming up, but we’re still on a bit of a lull from the various strikes and I’m also wondering what on earth the Christmas output is going to be like this year. But I’ve avoided the festive stuff here, and gone for the big hitters that interest me.
October
- Blackberry. It seems like this wants to be Tetris but about the phone. There’s no way it can be as good as that.
- The Great Escaper Reviews are calling this a really moving story, and with Michael Caine in the main role, I think it’ll be an emotional one.
- Trolls: Band Together. No one thought they needed another Trolls movie but annoyingly, the trailer really speaks to the boy band fan in me.
November
- One True Loves Honestly, this doesn’t look like a good film but it has Simu in it so I’m on board.
- The Marvels Really hoping this one has Marvel back to their best after some really mixed results across the big and small screen recently.
- Napolean I thought this might be a must-watch until reading there will be a 4 hour version available to watch as well. Seems unlikely.
December
- Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget There’s rightful controversy around this with the actor voicing Ginger being replaced, but I loved the first one so much…
- Wonka Fingers crossed. Adaptations of Dahl’s works recently haven’t fared so well so this one may be a challenge. Also, what is Hugh Grant doing as the Oompa Loompa?
- Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Do we think it’s actually going to get released this time?
I got off to a slow start this year with film watching but I’m getting excited about movies again now and hopefully can make the To Watch list a bit shorter, instead of endlessly adding to it.
