Knit bits - The first socks

I got to grips with circular knitting needles in the last project, and thought perhaps it was about time I dipped my toe in the waters of double pointed knitting needles - which means I could try my very first socks! I used this pattern for Relax at Home socks which seemed relatively easy and the kind of footwear I would enjoy wearing.

It took a little while to get my head round what we were doing at the heel but actually once you do it once, it makes perfect sense and is super easy the next time. That’s the good thing about making socks is that you get to try it all again immediately afterwards! I keep admiring the detail on these socks, they’re clearly not the neatest thing ever seen but not bad for a first attempt.

This project has made me think about yarn choices more though. Previously I’ve knitted with whatever is on hand or on offer at the craft shop, but with socks, you’re going to want something specific - soft, not scratchy, not slippery, the yarn can make a big difference. So that’s the plan for a future pair of socks - same again but with a really lovely yarn.
