Have your fill

The phrase ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ doesn’t really cover everything we need to do to fix our planet, but it’s a really good place to start and does help you think in the right way. Reuse is one of the best options, meaning new items don’t need to be made and we can really get the most out of our products. It’s no wonder that milk delivery to your door in glass bottles has been making a comeback, sped up by the pandemic but also by a convenience/conservation aspect too.

Recently I discovered the company Fill, which is trying to do for other household liquids what has been milk’s domain for so long. They offer refillable glass bottles for a variety of products - washing up liquid, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, plus raw cleaning ingredients to make your own.

They’re available across the country but also online, and not only is it a packaging-conscious option, they also care about what’s going into the bottles.

We make everything ourselves, at our own family-run factory in Northamptonshire with real chemists combining biodegradable ingredients to create simple, modern & effective eco cleaning & laundry products. No dyes. No harsh chemicals. No single use plastic bottles. Less waste.

I’ve tried the hand wash and it’s great - there’s not a lot of choice fragrance-wise, but I really like the feel of the soap, which is what it’s all about. I’ve got a few more things on my wish list and will try soon, and ultimately it just feels right to support a company that is clearly trying to do the right thing.
