2013 running diary - 29 of 500 kilometres

Published January 31, 2013

This year, I set myself a Runkeeper goal of completing 500 kilometres in twelve months. It’s a crazy goal, but in 2012, I managed almost 450km, so it should only take a bit more of a push to be able to achieve this. It’s one of those that is within my sights but is still going to be a bit tricky.

Of course, if January is anything to go by, it’s going to be impossible. First, I was recovering from the stupid cold that ruined my festive holiday. Then it snowed. I had grand plans for getting into a regular schedule but I’ll have to wait until winter disappears for that, I think.

Now, we know the one thing I like about running (maybe the only thing?) is the data and graphs that are possible from it. Here’s January.

January 2013

Not the best start, but I suppose it could have been worse.

One of the key things I’m trying to do this year is step away from obsessing about the pace. It’s not doing me any favours to see that I’m not going particularly fast. So, this year, I’m letting go of the pace and concentrating on the distance. Of course, it’s hard not to see how slow I’m going with the fabulous apps I use, but now I’m trying not to take it personally!

Anyway, rounding up a tiny bit, I’m at 29 kilometres, which is 6% of the goal. A little behind but not desperately so. February is tricky because it’s a shorter month but hopefully it’s not going to snow.
