A while ago, I set up my own About.me page. It’s not the most exciting thing you are going to see today, but I quite like the simplicity of the concept. I think About.me are aiming to be the digital version of a business card - a place to send people to find a quick introduction and then all the other places you might be on the web.

The nice thing about the service is that it’s free and really quick to create. Considering that the output is simply a list of links, it’s nice that it doesn’t take too long to put together. My only problem was having too many links to put in there, but that’s because I sign up to far too many sites!

I did have a small issue where it would occasionally crash when I clicked save, but it always did save what I’d done, so it wasn’t too much of a pain - except having to hit refresh to get back to the dashboard again.

Customising the colours and the font, the background, text sizes, and link colours means that every About.me page can look completely different. I went for a simple purple and grey combination, because I wasn’t going to spend too much time on it. If you are really going to use it as your home destination on the web, you can make it look pretty stunning.

There looks to be some basic statistics as well - I suppose useful if you have gone to a conference, told a lot of people to check your About.me page out, and you want to see how many did. They don’t go into too much detail though.

I’m not sure how much use I will get out of the page, if any, but I like that I have it there, and it was quick and easy to set up, so there really wasn’t anything to lose.
