Comic Relief climb begins
Published March 2, 2009
Whilst not strictly BBC news, anything to do with Comic Relief tends to go hand in hand with the broadcaster. In this case, we have stars from radio and pop taking to the mountain to raise money. They have been talking up the challenge for long enough, and as of yesterday, the climbing had begun.
What I am impressed with is the vast amount of coverage taking place. In previous years, it would have been all about waiting for the Comic Relief telethon itself to find out what happened, and watch video of proceedings. Now, you can almost take every step with the group as they make their way up Kilimanjaro.
From the blog:
The A-list celebrities, comprising Cheryl Cole, Chris Moyles, Denise Van Outen, Fearne Cotton, Gary Barlow, Kimberley Walsh and Ronan Keating, boarded a Kenya Airways flight from Heathrow Terminal 4 for the eight and a half hour journey to Africa. Alesha Dixon and Ben Shephard flew out ahead of the other climbers to see how Comic Relief money is being spent in Tanzania to help change lives there.
From the Twitter account:
Lunch amongst the clouds. Alesha had a wee tumble answering a call of nature - we knew she was ok, when her laugh rang out from the bushes.
There are also lots of video diaries, photos, and information about the good causes and things you can do to get involved on the BBC Red Nose Day page.
I have to say, though, I’m not a fan of the new red noses. I find them a little scary.
