Elbow draw in the crowds

Elbow have been having a stellar couple of years, with the Mercury Music prize under their belts, plus the Best British Group gong at the 2009 BRITs. Now it seems their popularity translates to the Red Button Music Sessions.

The Red Button service often provides coverage of music festivals and events throughout the year, and also screens performances that are usually recorded for radio. Elbow were playing for Radio 2, with the BBC Concert Orchestra, at Abbey Road, and the gig took place on the 17th January.

The recording has now become the most watched Red Button session since the service began, with almost 1 million views recorded over the seven day availability period.

Managing Editor of TV Platforms, John Denton, said the growing numbers prove the Red Button sessions are a worthwhile investment.

These figures show that audiences love the on-demand interactivity that the red button service can provide and we’re pleased that we’ve been able to take this incredible performance to an even wider audience.

Elbow’s viewing figures of 959,000 beats out Neil Diamond (800K), TOTP Karaoke (640K), plus Paul Weller and Adele (300K). The coverage of Glastonbury, and the Reading/Leeds festivals has already broken into the millions mark, so hopefully the music sessions can follow.
