I bought some envelopes today but forgot to get stamps so that’s not good… but anyway, the guy I bought them from was trying to talk to me but he wasn’t saying anything normal. Conversation that I expect from a salesperson - “nice day, isn’t it?” or something relating to my purchases, “Have you tried the self-sticking envelopes?” That kind of thing. This guy was going on about how he got fired from working on a newspaper and now he was stuck selling the damn things. Then he looked at me for a comment.

“Sorry?”

He took it as an admission of sympathy, when in fact it was just confusion.
