I picked up this game in a Playstation sale and then as it was Star Wars Day, figured it was exactly the right time to dive in and play. I’d forgotten that the LEGO version of Star Wars has its own style of humour (have previously tried watching some of the animations and not particularly enjoyed them) but it only took a minute to adapt to. In the game it’s not so irritating!

It’s in the Game

The basic premise of the game is immersing yourself in the movies and playing through the stories. You can start with Episode I, IV, or VII and then playing through those will unlock the sequels for each trilogy. I started with A New Hope, because that is the traditionally accepted correct place to start. You kick off inhabiting Leia as she dashes around her ship with the stolen plans. It’s a pretty easy game to play, a bit of shooting, a bit of bashing buttons to push and grab and build, and quite a lot of destruction to collect points and LEGO bits.

And I guess that’s kind of it. The graphics are really clear and good, the LEGO figures are very cute, and as I said, the jokes and funny moments add to the gameplay rather than spoil anything. But there’s not much to really do. You collect vehicles and characters and can switch between them, you can replay areas once you’ve completed the story to make sure you’re maximising everything, but I just felt like it was missing something.

Thoughts

Ultimately, if you felt like you wanted to get inside that galaxy far, far away, this is a fun way to do it, and I do think it will appeal to fans of all ages. But I got a bit bored of it after not too long, really all it did was make me want to watch the movies again.
