People were raving about this game when it was released, so I bought it last year and played a little bit - but back then all my thoughts were on Spider-Man and finishing off saving the streets of New York. I did enter Hogwarts a little bit, but it’s not until recently that I’ve really managed to give the wizarding world my full attention. I’m obviously a big Harry Potter fan, having read the books and watched the films and reliving the world on a regular basis. I know there was some criticism of the game before it was released due to the original authors views, but hopefully this game can be considered separate to that.
It’s in the Game
I love it. Firstly, the graphics are amazing. Walking around the castle, and gradually going further afield to Hogsmeade and more is absolutely incredible. It’s a huge map that I’ve only just scratched the surface of, and it’s completely engrossing and very true to what I imagined Hogwarts to be like. It sticks to some of the visuals we know from the films - the wonky bridge, the clock courtyard, but there is plenty of invention to enjoy as well.
The game has quite a lot of story to start with, but once you get a chance to play around, it really starts becoming addictive. It’s the kind of gameplay where you are given missions to work through, and there are big story ones alongside little side quests. There’s also a few things to collect and other little games to play and get through… it’s actually quite a lot like Spider-Man in that regard, no wonder I like it so much.
As I said, I’ve really only scratched the surface, having completed a few lessons, learned a few spells, tried and failed at a few duels and unlocked a little of the map. There’s a lot more to be done, and I honestly really can’t wait to get stuck in. There’s a lot to unpack here and that makes it value for money for me.
Thoughts
Great fun so far, exceptional visuals that I could spend a lot of time just wandering around the grounds to enjoy, let alone get on with the missions. There’s a lot to experience and I have a lot more still to do but so far so good and highly recommended for any Hogwarts fan out there.
