I used to play this style of game a lot - usually in the food genre, but sometimes a spa here or a supermarket there. Something about them really grabs my attention, short levels that you just have to get really good at time management to get the most out of. It’s been a long time since I saw any that caught my attention, and whilst I wouldn’t say that wedding designing is high up on my list of interests, this was a free game via Apple Arcade so there was no harm in giving it a go.
It’s in the Game
The gameplay is exactly what you’d expect, a series of levels that get progressively harder, in which you serve the customers of a wedding dress shop. Various customers arrive asking for dresses to be made or repaired, alongside accessories such as shoes, bags, jewellery and bouquets. There’s a big story behind the whole thing, but if I’m being honest, I skipped all of that just to keep the gameplay rolling.
Between each level, if you’ve earned enough money, you can buy the upgrades that will make the next levels easier, and in some cases, at all possible. And there are the occasional bonus levels or little tricks to find (a mouse pops up in each level and if you tap them in the short time they’re on screen, you get bonus points). It’s all pretty simple and easy to pick up, but gets more and more infuriating as you go along - in the best possible way.
Thoughts
I liked it. As I said, a game centred on the accoutrements that surround weddings wouldn’t really be my first choice, but as it’s there and available to play, and does all that time management stuff that I used to love so much. The game even unlocks an unlimited level that you can have a go at once every 24 hours, which adds an extra dimension to the level-by-level play… particularly as I think it wouldn’t take too long to blitz through the levels available. I’m not sure if there are anymore forthcoming or if that’s your lot, but either way, it’ll take me a while to get to the end, so I’m happy.
