The Untouchables is a must-see masterpiece - glorious, fierce, larger-than-life depiction of the mob warlord who ruled Prohibition-era Chicago... and the law enforcer who vowed to bring him down. This classic confrontation between good and evil and stars Kevin Costner as federal agent Eliot Ness, Robert De Niro as gangland kingpin Al Capone and Sean Connery as Malone, the cop who teaches Ness how to beat the mob: shoot fast and shoot first.

1:11 What a cast!
3:56 Impressive to be able to lather someone up who’s talking, and not get shaving cream in their mouth!
9:16 Ye olde flashbulbs are awful! Bright and flashy, boo.
11:10 I don’t understand why the treasury department would be going undercover.
17:36 It is so weird to me to see Sean Connery outside of Bond. Even though I’ve seen loads of things.
18:18 “Who would claim to be that, when he’s not?” He’s right! Treasury. Huh.
28:18 Hey now, accountants can be useful. Maybe not in a gun fight but still.
32:04 Yay Andy!
32:50 Irish! Ha, yea right. If Irish means that weird Scottish hybrid thing.
37:42 De Niro is great at that look that is ‘I’m smiling on the outside, but give it thirty seconds and this conversation is gonna turn so quick.’
39:05 I mean, dude’s making a speech with a baseball bat. This is only gonna go one way.
46:37 “If you want to keep a secret, don’t tell the boss.”
52:13 Was there prohibition in Canada?
55:34 “Alright, enough of this running shit.” That was just Sean saying that, wasn’t it?
1:07:33 Oh Sean, saying “Jaysus” doesn’t make you Irish.
1:18:12 “Doctor up some income tax… to annoy me.”
1:26:00 I hope Andy Garcia makes it.
1:43:21 Loving the shootout between two nice Armani suits.
1:54:38 Could do without the saxophone really.

Thoughts

Really good film, this one. Of course I’m a Costner fan so that helped, but what a cast they’ve gathered here! It was funny and heartbreaking and a good action drama, based on the true story of bringing Al Capone to some kind of justice.

It went a little bit weird when they all decided to become Canadian mounties, and I wasn’t sure about the bit at the end on the roof, but otherwise it was all really very good. (We’re just ignoring the elephant in the room of Sean Connery and his accent wizardry.)

Oh and I loved Andy Garcia in this - dude shot a man holding a hostage, whilst upside down stopping a pram from falling over. That’s the kind of guy you want on your team.
