But fifteen years later, they have been forced to adopt civilian identities and retreat to the suburbs where they have no choice but to retire as superheroes to live a normal life with their three children Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack (who were secretly born with superpowers). Itching to get back into action, Bob gets his chance when a mysterious communication summons him to a remote island for a top secret assignment. He soon discovers that it will take a super family effort to rescue the world from total destruction.

1:27 | Why can’t people just stay saved? |
2:30 | He reminds me very much of Jonny Bravo. |
10:37 | The idea of lawsuits against superheroes is an interesting one. “I didn’t ask to be saved.” |
14:50 | I am curious about the genetic process here. Strength + elasticity = speed? |
17:54 | Gah, children are so horrible to each other. |
21:58 | Stealth bravery is odd. |
24:41 | The concept of celebrating mediocrity gets truer and truer all the time. |
26:11 | I like the idea of a grid on the desk - great way of lining up pencils! |
28:27 | Ha, if he wasn’t fired before… |
30:26 | Ooh, that must be the Apple tablet. |
32:21 | I hope the Apple tablets don’t self-destruct. |
35:27 | That is one beautiful, if creepy, jungle. |
38:49 | What kind of accent does that woman have? |
42:26 | The fashion designer is my favourite character. |
46:14 | Ooh, they split the waterfall. Imagine if Pixar got their hands on Thunderbirds. |
54:23 | She does design good suits. |
1:01:25 | How would you ever be able to control a kid that fast? They are sneaky enough as it is. |
1:03:11 | The Incrediboy has hair like a troll. |
1:06:21 | This line will be useful in future arguments: “I know what I said, listen to what I’m saying now.” |
1:10:26 | I wonder if regaining her figure after being all elastic takes longer as she gets older. |
1:16:58 | I just realised quite a lot of elements of this are Thunderbirds. |
1:40:40 | Note to self: never wear a cape. |
Thoughts
Woohoo, another Pixar film! I’ve seen this only once before and I remember it having a bit of a slow start, but as ever, I could barely remember the storyline. It was brilliant as per usual. I feel like this isn’t one I could watch over and over again, as I could iwth some of the other Pixar greats but no one could argue that this wasn’t up to the usual high standard. I’m pretty sure the suit designer needs a spin off of her own.
Revisited - November 2018
In preparation for watching The Incredibles 2, I realised I had to watch this one again. I had zero recollection of what had happened in the first movie, and as my initial summary says, this wasn’t a Pixar movie that I felt had rewatchable qualities.
I still think that. To be honest, I just don’t know what all the fuss is about. It’s good, and entertaining enough, and Edna is still one of the best things in it. The concept is intriguing, but is the world of superheroes one we need more of at the moment?
I’m interested to see what the sequel holds in store but if there wasn’t one, I don’t think I would be sad about it. There are other Pixars that are more worthy of our time, in my opinion.
