- Tagline What if one split second sent your life in two completely different directions?
The split-second moments that can take a life down one path instead of another form the tantalising 'what if?' in this delightful romantic comedy. Gwyneth Paltrow plays London publicist Helen, effortlessly sliding between parallel storylines that show what happens if she does or does not catch a morning train back to her apartment. Love. Romantic entanglements. Deception. Trust. Friendship. Comedy. All come into focus as the two stories shift back and forth, overlap, then surprisingly converge.

The thing about Sliding Doors is, I couldn’t remember anything about it except that I watched it when I was still living at home and really, really disliked the ending. To the point that I argued with my mother about it for a very long time, and probably still would have done if she’d brought it up. Except I couldn’t remember what it was that happened or why I didn’t like it.
So, loathe as I was, we had to watch to see what happened and if I still felt the same, and then Film Watch could record the evidence so that my overworked brain wouldn’t have to remember.
The results are in and it’s true, I didn’t like the ending. It wasn’t as bad as I remember and I don’t know why I would have got quite so worked up about it, but still. It does feel like we go through the whole of the film and she ends up with the rubbish life anyway, so what was the point?
It was kinda funny in places, I suppose. And I do like John Hannah. But bleurgh. At least I don’t ever have to watch it again.
