1:17 | Kevin Spacey has third billing in this film? Since when?? |
1:49 | And music by the other Police-man. This film is full of surprises. |
9:11 | Literally the blind leading the blind. I wouldn’t fancy navigating New York like that. |
13:05 | “What does your friend look like?” Tactless. |
15:28 | It’s like in the Paralympics with the runners that help out. |
18:18 | Intriguing concept, the actor hiding his deafness until he starts missing cues. |
19:00 | Why are they having ice cream at night? |
27:07 | “Be-cause he’s deaf not stu-pid.” |
30:36 | Eek! Baby Spacey, and being British. |
43:47 | Love that Wally just doesn’t care at all. |
47:50 | Best car chase ever. |
51:23 | “You’re always looking out for me, you never get me into trouble…” |
54:39 | “You swear an awful lot.” |
1:00:39 | He introduces his sister, but they already met at the bar. |
1:05:36 | That receptionist was Julie, from Friends! |
1:07:31 | Spacey’s accent is most excellent. And by that, I mean hilarious. |
1:22:19 | We just indulged in a mid-film discussion on the merits of the two Willy Wonka films. Gene Wilder’s most famous role! |
1:25:56 | The sister is awesome. |
1:37:22 | Love the raging captain. “What do you mean, I can’t shoot ’em?” |
Conclusions
Another film I’ve seen before but not for a very long time. This was a late night choice, trying desperately to find something to fill the hours when I couldn’t get to sleep.
So, it’s an odd one. It takes a while to adjust to the humour of the 80s, particularly as it’s a difficult but genius concept I don’t think you would get away with today!
I was flabbergasted to find Kevin Spacey was in it, but it was very good once it got going. The bad guys and gals were caricatures and the bumbling police weren’t much better, but if you can accept the premise and those facts, it’s a reasonably entertaining 90 minutes.
