2:56 | “I don’t think you should drive, you’re a little excited.” |
4:10 | Ooh, like this song. Good tunes. |
7:42 | Bonus Hank Azaria. |
8:07 | I know she’s being all wiggy, but I quite like blonde Julia. |
13:13 | “My first car was a limousine.” Dear me. |
17:37 | Aw, I like that he’s nice to her when she’s being embarrassing. |
18:47 | In two minds about lift attendants. On the one hand, being trapped with a stranger. On the other hand, if you do actually get trapped, they should know what to do. |
19:44 | Interesting! No penthouses on the ground floor for people who are afraid of heights. That’s an oversight. |
23:47 | She says groovy. Love it. |
35:04 | She listens to the walkman in the bath. I am on board. |
36:56 | Conservative. Boring? Elegant. |
45:04 | Okay, Barney is awesome too. Jeez, this film is stacked with characters. |
49:05 | I need a Barney in my life. |
59:54 | I call that piano abuse. |
1:01:26 | “Stores are never nice to people, they’re nice to credit cards.” |
1:10:22 | Being classed as one of Edward’s girls won’t make you feel special. |
1:23:23 | Bit rubbish to get dressed up like that and then have to sit on a plane. |
1:33:24 | You can tell he’s a proper businessman cos he has a waistcoat. |
1:38:36 | Meanwhile, in the shoulder pads department. |
1:49:45 | Aww, Barney breaks my actual heart. |
1:53:54 | It’s always the limo driver. |
Conclusions
Somehow, I managed to get to this point in my life without seeing this film. Mr C was pretty aghast when he found this out, and nagged me to see it. Mostly, so I would start getting some of the references we have seen in other things.
Eventually, with a glass of wine in hand, I succumbed.
It was SO GOOD. I’m gutted that I haven’t seen this before, because it’s the kind of film I’d watch over and over and over. Amusing and witty people with interesting relationships, set to nostalgic music.
I’m not totally convinced that Richard Gere is worth all the bother, but I’m totally in love with Vivian. Outspoken, out of place, caring enough but equally carefree, if it wasn’t for her job, I’d want to be just like her.
It’s unusual for old classic movies to be seen with fresh eyes and still appreciated in the same way, but this one totally had me from the start.
