Two teenage elf brothers Ian and Barley Lightfoot get an unexpected opportunity to spend one more day with their late dad and embark on an extraordinary quest aboard Barley's epic van Guinevere. Like any good quest, their journey is filled with magic spells, cryptic maps, impossible obstacles, and unimaginable discoveries. But, when the boys' fearless mom Laurel realises that her sons are missing, she teams up with The Manticore and heads off to find them. Thoughts
The general consensus for this film is that it’s fine, a perfectly good movie, but not anywhere near Pixar at their best. And I agree with that to a degree. I thought both Chris Pratt and Tom Holland did a great job with lending their voices to this and had good chemistry as brothers trying to work out their relationship.
So yea, it’s an ok movie, there’s nothing really wrong with it, I just didn’t like it. I thought the scenes at the end were just desperately, cripplingly sad, more than the normal ‘Pixar pulling on your heart-strings’ stuff. It left me feeling really depressed, and I don’t think that was the intention.
