Conclusions
We’ve gotten into the habit of watching the trailer for the next Bond film after finishing each one, and laughed ourselves silly at the ad for this. All it wanted to do was talk up how DIFFERENT the film was, and boy, they were right.
Things I wasn’t keen on: breaking the fourth wall at the beginning, the inordinate amount of time it took for a story to emerge, the overdubbing of Bond’s voice as someone completely different when he was in disguise, continuing use of the sped up footage, the horrifying ending.
Things I didn’t mind at all: I didn’t think Lazenby was that bad really, certainly not as much character as Connery but not the worst I’ve ever seen. The story did pick up and actually became quite interesting, several proper genius moments, and of course, how brilliant Diana Rigg was.
It was clear that Bond wasn’t going to be able to stay married and I predicted the end about halfway through, but it was still horrible when it happened. Gutted that such a great female character had to go out that way, but oh well, that’s what you get with Bond.
To sum up, it really wasn’t a good film overall, but the second half definitely got more interesting so it wasn’t quite as bad as anticipated.
