Just as Agent 007 finally discovers true love, he is thrown into spectacular action and danger in this entertaining adventure that stars George Lazenby as the charismatic Bond.
|3:48||They had to play the Bond music over the top of the scene, otherwise we’d never know it was him!|
|6:48||Love that she was lazy enough to drive a car up to her parked car.|
|7:31||“This never happened to the other fella.” You can’t say that!!|
|11:42||Whilst I don’t always understand the casino scenes, I do love the amazing dealer paddles.|
|20:43||Feels a bit odd for Bond to be in trouble already, and he’s not even on a case.|
|28:02||“A licence to kill is useless unless you can set up a target.”|
|29:42||Actual picture of the Queen.|
|40:44||We’re starting to get the hideous 70s clothes now.|
|41:52||Sits down to read Playboy. Literally the worst spy ever.|
|46:17||The Bond family motto is “The World is Not Enough”!!! Amazing.|
|49:26||It’s hard for me when Bond goes in disguise because I can’t remember what Lazenby looks like in the first place.|
|1:02:52||It’s all starting to look very bunkerific. I approve.|
|1:20:47||Telly holds his cigarettes in a very bizarre fashion.|
|1:36:17||Wouldn’t have thought Blofeld would get involved in this stuff, but I admire a bad guy that does.|
|1:39:33||Well this scene does not need more cowbell!|
|1:49:15||Running out of screenwash is one of my worst nightmares.|
|1:55:59||“He had lots of guts,” is the worst one-liner about the worst death so far.|
|2:11:17||He just punched his own daughter. Harsh.|
|2:12:17||Blofeld’s got a bobsleigh team.|
|2:16:50||Bond got married??|
We’ve gotten into the habit of watching the trailer for the next Bond film after finishing each one, and laughed ourselves silly at the ad for this. All it wanted to do was talk up how DIFFERENT the film was, and boy, they were right.
Things I wasn’t keen on: breaking the fourth wall at the beginning, the inordinate amount of time it took for a story to emerge, the overdubbing of Bond’s voice as someone completely different when he was in disguise, continuing use of the sped up footage, the horrifying ending.
Things I didn’t mind at all: I didn’t think Lazenby was that bad really, certainly not as much character as Connery but not the worst I’ve ever seen. The story did pick up and actually became quite interesting, several proper genius moments, and of course, how brilliant Diana Rigg was.
It was clear that Bond wasn’t going to be able to stay married and I predicted the end about halfway through, but it was still horrible when it happened. Gutted that such a great female character had to go out that way, but oh well, that’s what you get with Bond.
To sum up, it really wasn’t a good film overall, but the second half definitely got more interesting so it wasn’t quite as bad as anticipated.
