5:52 I like the French publishing guy, fun!
6:59 The calculator watch is an odd choice.
11:11 It does seem a bit odd to change it without discussing with her, but the horror stories I’ve heard of the publishing world would suggest that happens.
13:29 Henry Cusick!
16:49 How that writer’s block can just hit, just like that, so annoying.
21:12 Your fridge is ringing.
25:27 “The mind plagued by funky thoughts… it’s how writers tick isn’t it?”
32:20 You can’t push reading your books on people, no matter how close they are to you.
40:48 “Can I be on your quiz team?” Is a great way to break the ice.
47:04 He made a bus joke. Adorable.
58:57 Loving De Caestecker trying to be undercover and failing. Fitz would be so much better.
1:05:26 Phew! That was more stressful than it should have been.
1:11:45 Well that plan has backfired spectacularly.
1:14:45 Worst teacher ever.
1:23:14 “I’m not good at this countryside stuff. I think I saw a bear.”
1:25:20 Loving his tantrum.
1:31:20 I didn’t fall for it but that is still a terrible book launch.

Conclusions

We had low expectations coming into this one, having watched a dull film beforehand, and it being quite such an indy low-budget option. However, it was far better than I would have expected and entertained throughout.

Some of the plot points felt a bit off: for example, the changing of the title of the book, whilst something that a ruthless publisher might do, didn’t seem like something he in particular would do. Also, the reconciliation with the father felt just a little superficial if the history hinted at is true.

Having said that, I loved Karen’s character - bruised, sensitive, but brave. The story of struggling to beat writer’s block was good, and the twist ending was kinda fun. And Fitz, god how I love Iain De Caestecker. So on balance, a good film, not perfect, but fun.
