My Best Friend's Wedding is a high-spirited romantic comedy that serves up something wild, something new, something touching and something truly hilarious. Commitment-shy Jules Potter reluctantly realizes she's in love with her best friend Michael. There is just one catch: he's about to marry someone else. Comically crazed and full of devious plan, Jules will do anything to steal him back... except tell him the simple truth.

| 2:47 | Intriguing to start the film with essentially a music video. |
| 4:46 | That’s a heck of a phone she’s got. Bit of a brick. |
| 10:55 | Quite the ambitious plan, break up a wedding in the four days over which it’s due to take place. |
| 12:47 | “I have four days to make you my new best friend.” Pressure. |
| 18:33 | Haha, love the exit from the lift where you don’t see the fall, just the chaos because of it! |
| 20:40 | “I’m still your best friend, you just haven’t seen me for a while.” |
| 23:33 | It’s not good for Julia to be the obnoxious one. |
| 26:33 | This is how I think I’d sound doing karaoke. But you just gotta sell it. |
| 31:29 | She’s a master manipulator. |
| 34:22 | It doesn’t seem like a very healthy relationship though, maybe they’d do better being split up. |
| 36:37 | “If I didn’t have to hate her, I’d adore her.” |
| 43:13 | It’s intentional that George and Michael look the same, right? |
| 51:09 | Never had an impromptu singalong in a restaurant before. |
| 56:34 | It’s not a bad thing not to have a song. |
| 1:00:35 | She’s a legit asshole. He said he really loved his job, why should he get fired because she can’t tell him how she feels? |
| 1:09:40 | Admitting the ring thing is the first honest thing she’s said all film. |
| 1:15:21 | “You’re never gonna be Jello.” |
| 1:21:19 | “IT IS NOT. GOING. WELL.” |
| 1:34:16 | Uh, wedding speeches. |
| 1:39:13 | I want a George. |
Thoughts
Well this was not at all what I was expecting and not in a good way. All the characters are pretty terrible people except George, who was wonderful and honest and supportive and really quite a loveable creature. Everyone else is just mean, duplicitous and acts insane.
I don’t really understand the desire to be with someone that only emerges the split second they are no longer available, but then again I don’t really understand people. There is some occasionally fun dialogue but mostly it was just a painful watch. It takes a lot to make Julia Roberts in rom-com mode be completely dislikeable.
The only thing that redeems this movie is that it wasn’t predictible, wasn’t the boy-meets-girl standard. But that’s all.
