1:17 Amazing chess set. I like good sets, even if I’m rubbish at playing.
3:03 “Fantastic ideas for a fantastic world.”
4:32 With great Gremlin comes great responsibility.
6:24 Universal Studios clocktower. Yay!
12:08 She’s got a touch of the Cruellas about her.
17:52 These people were way ahead of their time in terms of home automation.
19:46 What does it drink then?
26:03 Just realised this is where the purple minions idea comes from.
29:56 Because a dormitory of Mogwais isn’t cute at all.
36:10 She’s so right. It’s not socially acceptable to dislike Christmas.
42:12 Scheming little gremlins.
50:24 It does sort of make you wonder how such horrible things can come from such cuteness.
56:04 Ew, this film is a bit gross.
1:00:04 I do think someone might phone the police if they saw a boy walking about the streets with a sword.
1:07:57 Ah, she’s a cat lady. It makes so much sense now.
1:14:30 How did that flashing gremlin find a coat that fit him?
1:17:58 For things that don’t like bright lights, they cause a lot of explosions.
1:21:22 Oh my god, that’s an awful story.
1:31:35 Gremlin on a tricycle is fun, how did they do that?
1:40:41 “You do not understand. You are not ready.”

Conclusions

This appeared in an iTunes collection of Christmas films, and I couldn’t really remember it being particularly Christmassy. Of course after the first scene you see it’s snowing and it definitely is the festive period, so that goes to show how good my memory is. I had seen it before, but not for a while, and couldn’t really remember what occurred - aside from the general chaos.

It was good, slightly more brutal than I might have thought, particularly as it is considered a family film really. The story that Phoebe Cates tells about her father really shocked me, and some of the ways the Gremlins meet their fate in the kitchen also stuck with me.

It’s fun though, a good watch, although with plenty of fundamental flaws that mean you can’t take it too seriously. Who doesn’t want a Gizmo really?
