Thoughts

This was so good. Obviously! You’ve got everything brilliant about Deadpool, the meta moments, breaking the fourth wall, the endless stream of jokes and ripping on the people that pay the bills (spends the whole time slagging off the multiverse whilst also being a solid multiverse movie!)… and then adds in the great buddy comedy with an even grumpier variant of Wolverine.

There’s so much in this film, it’s going to take several rewatches to pick up even half of the good stuff, and I can see such love and attention given to the comics that mean there are more references I’ll never get. Loved the group of old-school Marvel heroes coming together, although does that now mean all those films are canon and I have to go back and watch those?

The only downside to it, for me, was the fighting… because it was completely pointless. Well choreographed and the claustrophobia of the car scene was great, but when you know no one is going to die or even get hurt, it feels like a waste of time. In the behind the scenes, the filmmakers say this is what everyone has been waiting for so I’m sure it pleased them, but I could have done without it.

But overall a great movie, loads of fun, and with plenty of rewatchability. Almost restores your faith in the MCU. Almost.
