---|---|
1:53 | Talking over the sound of a jet engine taking off, kinda like talking in the F1 pit lane! |
3:28 | That was an awful lot of information to take in. |
7:29 | The dog is called Bear. |
14:54 | Being the front line AND the last line of defence is a lot of pressure. |
17:39 | As much as I like being indoors, 65 days with no fresh air does seem like a lot. |
22:02 | “I don’t mean to suggest you’re indecisive, not at all. You’re just… complicated.” That’s what I am too! |
24:30 | Is Greenwich Mean (Zulu) Time different to normal GMT? |
28:40 | There’s so much repetition on a submarine. Can’t just one person say something? |
33:24 | It’s odd to say “ship sinking” when you are already below water. |
38:50 | I love that. Silver Surfer argument. “You have to settle an argument even in the face of stoopidity.” |
41:36 | I feel like I need a map to plot their course. |
44:59 | Scariest words in the world? “This is not a drill.” |
56:24 | How calm does a person have to look to be called calm? He’s calmer than I am! |
1:08:49 | So caught up in that. This film is good. |
1:14:43 | He was ready to make the difficult decisions. |
1:18:58 | “There’s only two sides to a mutiny.” |
1:23:09 | Dude is doing Star Trek references. I’m on his side. |
1:30:33 | I’m enjoying all the talk of bubbles. |
1:34:07 | You can’t just put your key in and walk off! |
1:40:32 | Come on Scotty! |
1:44:45 | Awkward. |
1:48:34 | “You’ve both created one hell of a mess.” And film. |
Conclusions
A long time ago, I mentioned to Mr C that I wanted to see some submarine films. We made a list but never really got round to watching any. After perusing Netflix for a while, we stumbled across this beauty, that neither of us had seen before. Coincidentally on the same weekend as Doctor Who went all submarine, we decided we were in the mood for a bit of action and Crimson Tide was the one.
I really loved this. Initially I was concerned when the reporter gave us a huge spiel of backstory that I struggled to follow and had no hope of remembering. Thankfully, it wasn’t necessary to remember the intricate details of who said what to whom, the fight was clear. Between boat captains, between nations, between morals. Tony Scott mastered making the scenes tense, I was almost literally on the edge of my seat at times. It had its Black Hawk Down moment, genuinely pulling at my robot heart-strings, and it was all really well done.
