1:06 | How many people made this film? That’s at least five idents. |
4:01 | Amazing the beards these people have in the middle of the hot, dusty terrain. |
4:54 | Blimey, James Bond never punched like that. |
7:47 | Jeez, the whole of Hollywood seems to get a credit on this movie. Awesome. |
12:26 | Ugh, the Wild West is such a hideous time. |
16:30 | “You shot a deputy…” I’m sure there’s a song about that. |
20:35 | The poor bartender. He’s having a rubbish day. |
22:46 | Hello Harrison. |
24:26 | So people seem to know who he is, even if he doesn’t. |
30:29 | Huh. Aliens and cowboys. What a juxtaposition. |
35:34 | It took the barkeep’s wife too? I feel soooo bad for him! |
38:17 | The woman is seriously annoying. |
43:40 | It’s raining? It doesn’t rain in Cowboyland. I’ve never seen rain in a Western before. |
52:49 | At least they showed the alien in good time. No Jeepers Creepers moment for us today. |
56:23 | I like that boys get to wear cowboy hats too. |
1:01:23 | Grief, they all punch so hard. |
1:02:55 | “You’ll always be my favourite.” Bless! |
1:08:30 | You know, he left a whole group of people defenceless, taking the best weapon, to chase after the silly woman. Hmm. |
1:17:23 | This is about aliens actually sucking people up and doing experiments on them. The traditional story. |
1:22:09 | They are so quick to doubt him. He’s not leaving, is he? He’s got a plan. |
1:30:02 | I know they have to work together, but I don’t really like that the bad guy has turned so nice. A bit more grudgingly would be good. |
1:32:15 | He lassoed an alien! |
1:34:08 | There’s The Rage! |
1:37:53 | I don’t understand why they gave him such a powerful gun. |
1:40:56 | It’s not actually possible to stop thinking. Not even with that method. |
1:45:47 | I think that might be an alien with The Rage too. |
1:49:38 | Emmett! |
Conclusions
I think we were mildly interested in this movie when we first saw the trailers but by the time it was available in iTunes, we’d sort of talked ourselves out of watching it. However, it’s been one too many rom-coms for me recently, and I was desperate to watch something else. So, it was to Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford, plus a bunch of aliens, that we turned out attention.
Generally, I liked it. It was well made, and I was impressed with the CG. The only bit that felt out of place was the bit where he jumped onto the wing. Not so great graphics and didn’t really fit. Considering this is a mash up of high tech aliens and low tech cowboys, that was a pretty hard task to achieve.
The acting was so so, Harrison Ford was good but the rest were nothing to write home about really. Having said that, the characters weren’t all that rounded anyway. Only the bartender had some good lines.
Other than that, it was an okay story but it left me with a lot of questions. Not so much plot holes, but just things that didn’t quite make sense. Why did the aliens go after them anyway, when they were clearly getting the gold unhindered anyway? Why did they give him a gun he could kill them all with? Why did no one bother to ask the woman where she came from and how she got there?
A reasonable enough film, fascinating concept, good watch, but not the best movie ever by any means.
