Thoughts
I had sort of written this film off as not going to be very good, but then I heard a Pop Culture Happy Hour episode where they put it in the same bracket as Game Night, and we loved that one, so why not give this one a chance?
I have to say upfront that I don’t like the premise of this film, and that parents being so involved in their kids lives makes me feel a bit uncomfortable. But, if you put that to one side, then it’s actually a fun movie. The three parents are terrible characters but great to watch unravel as they go on their self-imposed adventure. The kids are really self-aware and confident, strong enough to know what they want despite peer pressure from various sides.
There are plenty of good jokes, and maybe just a couple of dodgy moments that I didn’t particularly enjoy. I was also quite mad at how quickly John Cena was forgiven for throwing a boyfriend at a wall, but it wasn’t really the sort of film to dwell on stuff like that.
Not perfect, but far better than I thought it was going to be.
