3:00 “You look awful.” Happy Christmas to you too.
3:53 “The universe is made of stories, not atoms.”
5:03 BEAR!
6:55 Story within a story. Christmas inception.
16:35 A babysitting Aunt telling a story about a babysitting Aunt.
20:35 My god, that mouse is adorable.
27:04 What I’ve learned so far is that Finland looks nice but all the people are super mean.
30:41 I was already enjoying it but Stephen Merchant has brightened things up considerably.
33:11 “Why would you teach me to talk if you’re never going to listen?”
42:11 That woman is dancing with a goat.
55:23 Truth Pixie is a difficult companion.
59:17 “Lucky for you, I’ve got a few more tricks up my sleeve. And by tricks, I mean improvised home-made explosives.”
1:09:51 “Happy ending isn’t compulsory.”
1:15:18 I need this sarcastic mouse in my life.
1:28:59 Nikolas and Mika the Talking Mouse Day.

I’ll be honest, I was enjoying the movie okay, it seemed like a sweet story within a story and it was going places. But then Stephen Merchant piped up as a talking mouse and it really hit a new level of fun. It gathered speed, and actually became really moving and quite insightful.

Maggie Smith is also brilliant, and quite under-used really, only popping up every now and then to ground the story in a certain amount of reality. But it’s all lovely and very Christmassy and now I want to zip through the book as well. Good times.
